Chilli's Birth Story as told by her Dad, J-E.
You know what it's like…. Life's going along at a steady pace. All is well and in it's own place according to the best possible rules of this universe… then your wife hands you a used toilet roll with the words "Shhh… I'm pregnant" scratchily written with a bold felt marker.
What do you do in a situation like this? Do you ignore the "Shhh"? The gentleman in me prevailed and I replied on the same roll…. "I'm stoked!!"
Nine months and much pondering on the future later, We were at a party and as we left Cherie said "We're off to have a baby now… cya" .She was convinced that it would happen that night.
She was right… the serious contractions started and we drove to hospital. The drive was uneventful but the panic levels were just below the surface. Cherie sure can drive under pressure… Just kidding… I drove
We arrived, were chucked into a room and our midwife from The Natural Birth Education & Research Centre arrived soon after… the birth started and the video camera stopped. So there were photos…. Our midwife was beautiful as she helped me through the "best photo angles" while being there and instilling much confidence to Cherie.
As heads were popping out I remembered something that our midwife had said at one of the pregnancy classes we attended…. so I gently caressed Cherie's hair and whispered in her ear … "Be soft" … She completely relaxed… and Chilli Belle Mamet popped into the world.
The following week was spent at the Natural Birth and Education Centre learning about being a parent to a newborn and letting the rush happen. Our midwife and the centre were instrumental in helping me understand what was happening in a beautiful and calm space.
I couldn't have asked for a better experience.
